Have you ever fallen in love with a paint color in a magazine or friend’s house…then painted it on your own walls and hated it?
Hands down, the most difficult part of any design is the paint color. This is because the same paint color takes on three different colors a day depending on morning sun, afternoon sun, and evening darkness.
To add to the difficulty, no room is positioned to accept light in the same way. For example, southern exposure rooms can easily handle darker colors. On the other hand, a northern exposure room may feel too stark without warmer colors. And don’t forget there are pink-based neutrals, brown-based neutrals, gold-based neutrals, and green-based neutrals. Mixing these in common areas will not work.
The universe isn’t always that difficult. Through trial and error, we have put together a list of some of our “Tried and Trues.” These neutral colors won’t shock you when the sun goes down nor will they look that different from house to house. If you want to play it safe, these are good go-to colors from Benjamin Moore.
