A young family recently moved into a new home in Royersford and faced a decorating challenge in their two story family room. They were struggling to understand the right scale of furniture to fill the space properly.
In addition to proper scaling, kids played a large part in this design – we needed to pick items and fabrics that would work well with three small children.
Partner Decorating from Staging Spaces and Design was perfect – it allowed the family to plan the space properly and execute the finished product on their own.
During our consultation, in addition to measuring the space and taking project photos, Staging Spaces actively reviews the overall style of the home. Is it casual? Traditional? Contemporary? What colors do the homeowners love?
Our goal is to uncover the colors that make them feel at home so we can effectively layout a concept for them. In this case, the homeowners love warm earth tones with accents of bright green which were able to be strategically integrated in this project.
Key Decorating Elements
Specific to kid-friendly furniture, we selected a sofa from Ballard Designs covered in sunbrella fabric for this family room decorating project. This durable fabric is great for both indoor and outdoor applications because it’s both easy to clean and durable.
Staging Spaces also chose a cocktail ottoman with storage also from Ballard Designs rather than a traditional wood coffee table – no sharp edges plus extra storage for toys and games!
Additional selections included:
- Ballard Designs – club chair, wall art
- West Elm – nesting tables & floor lamp
- World Market – accent table
For the collection of items, Staging Spaces offered two potential layouts (pictured below). Which do you like best?
